CINEMATIC HERITAGE
The movie studios in Ouarzazate served as the backdrop for many internationally well-known productions, including Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven by Ridley Scott, Babel with Brad Pitt, The Nile Diamond with Michael Douglas, The Last Temptation of Christ by Martin Scorsese, Tea in the Sahara with John Malkovich, and many others.
Visitors are treated to a variety of breathtaking scenery, from the unique ambiance of the desert to the gorgeous green slopes. It is not surprising that David Lean, Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese, or Alejandro González Iárritu picked this location, just as their forefathers did, who rose to fame for filming the blockbuster "Lawrence of Arabia," "Gladiator," "Kundun," "Babel," and most recently "Prison Break."
THE KASBAH AND MEDINA
In Ait Benhaddou, a fortification known as the ksar, is situated in the Ounila valley. Its structures line a hill that rises to the top, where a historic cereal granary is located. Troglodyte dwellings in Imadri can be seen further down the road.
One of the most renowned and ancient Koranic libraries in the nation is located in Tamgrout, one of these settlements, in the Drâa valley; some of the manuscripts preserved there are almost 1000 years old.
Take a stroll around Tinghir's At El Haj Mellah in the shadow of its adobe walls while navigating its winding streets through ochre-washed structures. The old Jewish district, which represents a significant period in the history of the city, is located there.
The environment in and around Zagora is very distinct. The inscriptions on the rock in Tazzarine, which date back 5,000 years, provide evidence of the country's multi-millennial past.
DOORWAY TO THE DESERT
There are numerous trails that will take thrill-seekers hungry for adventure and trekking to the edge of the desert.
At the intersection of the Draâ, Ziz, and Dades highways, meet camel caravans and drivers. What about spending the night in a Berber camp? You will have an amazing experience at the "dune of the golden sand" at Tinfou, close to Zagora.
As you arrive in Tinghir, your journey starts at the Glaoui Kasbah, where you can take in the breathtaking view of a palm grove and the Todra gorges in the High Atlas. Get prepared for an unforgettable experience at the entrance to the desert!

A TASTE OF CINEMA HISTORY IN MOROCCO
The expansive Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate served as a meeting place for traders from the Atlas, Draa, and Dadès Valleys for centuries. In the 1920s, a contemporary garrison town was built nearby to manage France's colonial interests.
As the French protectorate left in the 1950s, Ouarzazate's film industry began to grow steadily, and "Ouarzawood" movie studios have established quite a reputation for creating realistic settings for films purporting to be set in Tibet, ancient Rome, Somalia, and Egypt.
The Kasbah of Tifoultoute guards the city's edge a little bit. Cinema buffs will remember these settings because David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia was filmed in the middle of them. The studios in Ouarzazate served as the backdrop for many internationally well-known productions, including Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven by Ridley Scott, Babel with Brad Pitt, The Nile Diamond with Michael Douglas, The Last Temptation of Christ by Martin Scorsese, Tea in the Sahara with John Malkovich, and many others.
